Mordor has nine different alliances for players to choose from. All but the Guardians of Mordor, an alliance for helping new players to learn the game, are involved with player killing. Six of the alliances are more rigidly organized and structured, with leaders and ranks that players may achieve, as well as alliance halls and equipment. The other two are Merc and Loner, for players wanting to play a mercenary or loner character. A player may only have one character in any of the six main alliances, but may have an alternate character in one or more of the other three.
The Eye of Sauron
The Eye of Sauron consists of many folk of all types. There are rangers who can guide them through the lands, thieves that steal gold and jewelry as they please, warriors who stand up to any mortal without fear, clerics who heal the wounds of their brethen, and mages who cast the deadly spells of Sauron. In addition, almost every remort belief is represented withintheir halls.
'It is within our blackened hearts the keepers of peace wish to plunge their swords. Therefore, members of this dark alliance are evil minded in a few different ways. They seek to horde gold so that their enemies might be destitute. They seek to shed blood so that their foes might be lifeless. They mend the wounds of our brothers, as they mend our own.In this fashion, we seek to dominate for hundreds upon hundreds of years.'
The Hand
The Hand is a superior band of warriors with the intent of clearing Middle Earth of those who oppose Lord Sauron. The Hand populated mostly by warriors, but from time to time rangers and others have been known to join ranks with them as well.
The Hand acts on their own beliefs, trusting only those in their alliance and they seldom rely on the word of others. They have very brutish tactics, and always finish what they start, not caring how the job gets done.
The Haradrim
The Haradrim are a mighty force who rule the South. Allies of Sauron, they aid him in his plans to conquest of Middle-Earth while pursuing their own goals. Blood magic, deceit, and vicious wit are commonplace among their fell ranks, though honour amongst themselves is highly regarded. They hope to establish a foothold within the lands of the weaklings who inhabit the green pastures so different from their desert home.
The goals of the Haradrim are quite straightforward: the eradication of resistance to Sauron and the destruction of all the forces of good. They will employ whatever tactics available to meet their goals, no matter how heinous or obscene they may appear to be. Aside from those who commit atrocity just for the thrill, they believe in self-sufficiency and personal gain.
The Last Alliance
The Last Alliance was forged long ago of those souls who dedicate their lives to the defense of Middle Earth, and the destruction of evil. The members of the Last Alliance vow to defend the free realm from the flood of evil that descends Middle Earth even now. Members are from all walks of life, with many different skills. Though warriors and rangers are most numerous, many others have dedicated their lives to the preservation of good.
The Northern Rangers
The Northern Rangers are a group of wanderers who owe fealty to none but each other. They are silent watchers, and are skilled in the art of hiding. They travel in a silent manner, arrival in instant and leaving the next. The Northern Rangers are vastly opposing to the corruption that Sauron wishes for Middle Earth and fights against him in his struggle for control. The Rangers love nature and spent vast amounts of time in the wilderness becoming one with nature. Joining them does not require you to be a ranger, for all that defend the forest and oppose Sauron are welcome.
The White Council
The White Council is a gathering of the wise, powerful, and influential among the enemies of Sauron. Though Wizards and Priests play an important role, any class is welcome, for even a halfling thief may play a key part in the war against Mordor. The members of the White Council generally are lords and leaders among their races, or are very wise or respected by the Eldar or the Istari. Their roles is that of good and should be somewhat of a noble and wise demeanor, with hintings that the Wise know more of what is, what has been, and what yet may come. As the members of the White Council revere the Valar and above all else Iluvatar, all members shouldseek to maintain a good alignment.
The Guardians of Mordor
The Guardians of Mordor alliance does not really relate to Tolkien. However, their function here is to assist new players. All role-playing of good/evil in this alliance is strictly forbidden. Members of this alliance must be courteous, helpful and polite to newbies.
All Guardians are required to play a neutral aligned character and help newbies by following the rules of Mordor. Guardians cannot influence any newbie to play a character of good or evil alignment. This Alliance has one purpose, to assist new players getting started in Mordor.
The Guardians of Mordor are a non-PK Alliance. Guardian members will not be attacked by any other alliance and not interfere with PK of any kind.
Loners and Mercenaries
Loners and Mercenaries are independent characters that wander through Middle Earth and do as they please. They take no sides, yet may make temporary alliances with clans or individuals to aid them in battle. Members of these guilds are not required to help each other out or show anyallegiances or loyalness to anyone.
A character is an independent guild may still be recruited by an alliance, as long as they follow the rules below and the rules in the help files listed below.
Certain rules apply to Loner or Mercenary characters:
- You are subject to all rules that an allianced player is subject to.
- If you switch between two players that are able to PK, an offline time of 5 minutes is required where neither character is online. This only applies to times of PK.
- You may not log any two PK characters at the same time on PK days.
- Do not expect any hall or alliance channel. You are a solo-artist if you join an independent guild. However, you will get access to agossip and notes to alliance.
- For the time being, you may have 2 PK characters. If you have a character in a regular PK alliance, then that counts as 1 of the 2. If you do not have a character in a regular PK alliance, then you may have 2 characters in independent guilds.
